POSTED 8/13/2026
Bourn Companies is seeking a talented Design Architect to join our in-house Architecture Team and help shape distinctive, high-impact real estate developments.
This is an opportunity for a design-driven architect to work on complex projects with an emphasis on high-rise and mid-rise mixed-use environments, integrating residential, hospitality, retail, office, entertainment, amenities, and public spaces.
Unlike a traditional architecture-firm role, you will work directly within the development team, collaborating with internal decision-makers and external consultants from early concept and planning through design development and execution. You will help translate development vision, market insights, and project objectives into compelling architectural solutions.
What You’ll Do
- Develop architectural concepts, site plans, master plans, building layouts, floor plans, and design studies.
- Translate project vision, programming requirements, and market objectives into thoughtful, compelling design solutions.
- Help shape high-rise, mid-rise, mixed-use, residential, hospitality, and Class A developments.
- Produce and manage design drawings, diagrams, presentations, and other visual materials.
- Collaborate with external architects, engineers, and consultants through design development and documentation.
- Guide design quality and review solutions for constructability, code compliance, technical requirements, and alignment with project objectives.
- Coordinate design schedules and deliverables across multiple disciplines and stakeholders.
- Study global design trends, emerging development patterns, and exceptional projects to bring new ideas and innovative approaches into our work.
- Consider the relationship between design decisions, construction methods, project schedules, development objectives, and budgets.
- Contribute to the continued development of internal design standards, workflows, and processes.
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture from an accredited university, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience.
- 5–8 years of relevant architectural design experience.
- Demonstrated experience designing high-rise and/or mid-rise mixed-use projects.
- Experience with Class A projects.
- Strong conceptual design ability and the ability to translate a vision into an architectural concept.
- Strong graphic, visualization, presentation, and drafting skills.
- Understanding of site planning, building codes, zoning, entitlement processes, and development constraints.
- Ability to connect design decisions with constructability, estimating, budgeting, and project execution.
- AutoCAD and Revit proficiency is a plus.
- Experience leading or managing design professionals is a plus.
The Ideal Candidate
You are curious, highly creative, and motivated by the opportunity to push design beyond conventional solutions. You balance strong design instincts with an understanding of how projects are actually developed and built.
You thrive in a fast-paced environment, can work independently while collaborating effectively across disciplines, and are comfortable adapting as projects evolve. Most importantly, you are excited by the opportunity to influence significant real estate developments from the developer’s side of the table.
Why Bourn
This role offers an architect something different: the opportunity to move beyond a traditional consultant relationship and become directly involved in the decisions that shape a development.
You’ll work alongside development, commercial, residential, hospitality, and construction professionals and gain exposure to the full real estate development process. For someone interested in expanding beyond traditional architectural practice, the position provides a pathway to broader development and leadership opportunities.
