Karena Makomaski, AIA, is a Project Architect at BWS Architects in Tucson. She is a native of Arizona, who graduated from the University of Arizona’s College of Architecture in 1999. She has worked for firms in Kentucky, Boston and Santa Fe, returning to her hometown of Prescott, Arizona in 2017, where she joined the Arizona AIA in 2020. She has worked mainly in the commercial and public sectors. Although she has a variety of experience in new buildings, lately she has primarily been engaged in adaptive re-use projects and enjoys renovation assignments’ challenge to provide the building possibilities of a new life outside of a landfill. 2024 was her first year serving as Secretary on the Southern AZ AIA board.
