The AIA Arizona State Conference was held Friday, October 6, 2023, at The Clayton House in Scottsdale.
With a theme of Community, the 2023 conference was chaired by Alison Rainey, AIA, Principal at Shepley Bulfinch who is the 2023 President-Elect of AIA Arizona. Significantly, speakers included the three architects who are the most recent recipients of the AIA national’s highest honor for an architect.
More than 400 guests attended the conference, which featured a significant lineup of speakers including the most recent AIA Gold Medal recipients: Carol Ross Barney, FAIA, the 2023 AIA Gold Medal honoree, and Angela Brooks, FAIA, and Larry Scarpa, FAIA, of Brooks+Scarpa, the 2022 AIA Gold Medal recipients. Speakers also included 2024 AIA National President Kimberly Dowdell, AIA; Steven Lewis, FAIA, an urban design principal at ZGF; Antonio Gomez-Palacio, FRAIC, chair of the firm Dialog; and the renowned large-scale artist and activist Lauren Bon.
The conference featured the Arizona debut of the “Say It Loud!” exhibition, special Allied Partner interaction, specially produced videos highlighting outstanding people and projects in our local profession, provocative conversations on the future, and opportunities for attendees to connect and interact with peers in the profession.
