Small Firm Exchange (SFx)
The AIA Small Firm Exchange (SFx) advances the mutual interests of architects practicing in small firms no matter what building type(s) the firm focuses on. During the course of the year, the Small Firm Exchange will host meetings, social gatherings, and panel discussions, among other events. Open to all who work in small firms, SFx events are often tailored to small firm leaders and sole practitioners.
Small firms are generally defined by AIA as those with less than 10 architecture professionals. Nationally, approximately 75 percent of all architecture firms are small firms.
Devan Porter, AIA, a principal with Design Service Professionals and an architecture instructor at ASU, is the AIA Arizona representative to the national AIA SFx and leads local SFx activities in the Phoenix area.
