About the Firm:

Line and Space designs resource-conserving architecture anchored in climate and place, approaching each project through an understanding of landscape, culture, and community. Founded in 1978, the firm works through a collaborative, research-driven process grounded in program, site analysis and regional influences. Their practice seeks a quiet integration of structure and landscape, guided by attention to entry sequence, scale, materials, color, and form. A collaborative studio culture and experience as both architects and builders strengthen the connection between design intent and construction. Projects explore climate specific strategies such as water harvesting, gray water irrigation, and the use of shade and air movement to comfortably temper outside space, demonstrating how buildings in harsh climates can perform effectively while remaining thoughtful and enduring. The firm has been recognized internationally with over 150 architectural and environmental design awards, including the AIA Committee on the Environment, the AIA Western Mountain Region Firm of the Year, and the AIA Arizona Sustainable Firm of the Year.
