AIA Phoenix Metro
Design for Access: An ADA Experience
All are welcome to participate in this immersive, hands-on workshop that challenges architects and designers to move beyond code compliance and into real-world performance. Participants will engage in interactive exercises that test ADA standards—exploring turning radius, reach ranges, and spatial constraints—followed by a guided look at the newly renovated spaces at Mayo Clinic Campus in Scottsdale, led by Shepley Bulfinch. This provides a unique opportunity to evaluate accessibility at both the building and campus scale.
Through experiential learning and design analysis, attendees will gain practical insights into how accessibility shapes usability, spatial quality, and the overall design of the built environment.
Presented by AIA Phoenix Metro Women in Architecture and the Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging (EDIB) Committee in honor of Disability Pride Month.
