SB1305School Construction Moratorium
As you are all aware - Arizona is in a severe budget deficit and the legislators think that one way to solve this issue - is to put a moratorium on school construction. SB1305 would require the school facilities board to not approve any new school construction for the remainder of the 2007-2008 fiscal year and for fiscal year 2008-2009.We are not sure if this stand alone bill will continue through the legislative process or if this will become a part of the overall bill for the budget.
Please contact your members of the legislature and let them know that school construction is important for our kids, economy, as well as to those communities that are experiencing growing student populations and require new schools.

The 2008 Presidential election is proving to be one of the most hotly contested in years. With recent close elections in Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada, South Carolina, Florida, and Michigan, the week between February 2nd and February 8th is going to be a major deciding factor in the race for both the Democratic and Republican presidential nominations.
This year marks the first time in nearly a century that neither a sitting president nor vice president is running for the presidency. There is an incredible opportunity to be part of the change that is coming with a new administration. The American Institute of Architects and its more than 80,000 members have a chance to play an active role in the process. By being a strong, united voice in this election, we can ensure that the issues important to architects are heard above all of the noise of this campaign.
For over 150 years, AIA members have advocated for policies and programs that have benefited the built environment and the practice of architecture. We have enacted change at every level of government, and we have done it both as strong individual leaders and as a group unified by the same goals and values.
AIA Arizona has partnered with AIA National DesignVote08 to provide you with information that may help you to participate in the upcoming Arizona Presidential Primary. DesignVote08 is a non-partisan program focused on getting issues important to architects front and center in the 2008 campaign, as well as enabling architects to get involved in the political process by sharing information and resources.
