The State Conference Committee worked really hard this year to bring you a great line-up of speakers and we are all looking forward to seeing you tomorrow at the2010 AIA Arizona State Conference.

Know someone in the midst of the licensing process or just beginning? Tell them to attend the 4th Annual AIA Arizona Associates Conference coming up next Friday, August 20th at the AIA Arizona office.

The 2010 AIA Arizona State Conference will be held at the Sheraton Wild Horse Pass on August 19, 2010. It’s going to be a really big show brought to you by the cast of AIA Arizona and its Conference Committee.

As you know the State Conference is Thursday, August 19th at the Sheraton Hotel at Wild Horse Pass. We are trying to implement a mentoring program during the conference, and we need your help!

The staff of AIA Arizona want to wish Donna McQuery a great retirement. Donna has been a vital part of the Southern Arizona Chapter.

AIA Arizona would like to thank all of you that have renewed your membership for 2010. We understand that 2009 was a challenging year and know that 2010 continues to present challenges.

“The Ice Breaker” for our February AIA Arizona Board meeting followed the theme of “Politics in Architecture in Arizona.” So, the Ice Breaker for the meeting was, “What bills or legislation do we think would help save Arizona from its current financial morass?”

Do you have someone in your office that is not an architect? Are they currently an AIA Associate Member? If not, they need to join. AIA Associate Members are very active with monthly programs, a quarterly newsletter, A.R.E. workshops, A.R.E. study groups, and the availability of A.R.E. study materials. For those whom I have yet to meet, my name is Kevin T. Morrow, AIA and I am the 2010 incoming President for AIA Arizona. I am the Principal of the Phoenix and Tucson offices of Gromatzky Dupree & Associates Southwest.

Happy New Year! It is time again to consider getting involved in the AIA and there are a lot of different ways you can do so. One of them is serving on one or more of our committees that are available at the state or local levels.

2009 has been an interesting and challenging year. We have been extremely busy working on programs that we feel you need in order to get through these tough economic times.

AIA Arizona would like to thank everyone for getting involved in 2009. Your time and effort enabled us to accomplish a lot of things this year. We look forward to your involvement in 2010!

My year as President of AIA Arizona has exceeded every preconception I had about the demands and opportunities to be encountered. Due to the our dedicated staff, my time commitment was easy to manage – thank you Alex, Charnissa, Diana, Cathy, Brent and Tina for your support!

We are continuing the Survival 101 series of workshops that began in the spring. We have three more workshops on marketing coming up. December 16th will be Marketing Musts for Architects; January 12th is Creating Best in Class Proposals and January 27th will be Preparing Winning Project Interviews. Mark your calendar for these great workshops!

As we reach the end of the year and are fast approaching the holiday season, the staff of AIA Arizona wish you and your families a safe and Happy Thanksgiving!

Today AIA Arizona has launched our new website (http://www.aia-arizona.org), and I am proud to say that it far exceeds my expectations for easy access as well as content. The Membership Communications Committee under Joe Worrall’s leadership has been working closely with our Communications Director, Alex Evjen for most of 2009 to redesign this website. Thanks to Alex’s passion for technology and access to information, we have created a new tool for communications with our members.
