WELCOME to another edition of “JUST THE FACTS, PLEASE…” I guess our new look has turned some heads because we’ve received some great responses from all of you. Thank you for taking the time to tell us what you think, and we hope to hear from you more!Like promised, the photo contest is BACK! Check out this mystery photo and the one at the bottom of the newsletter. If you’re the first person to guess the building shown in the photos you can win a $10.00 gift certificate to Starbucks! You definitely don’t want to pass this opportunity up, especially all of you java junkies with espresso running through your veins (a.k.a. architects). |
| WHAT’S YOUR OASIS? |
|
Urban Hub + Nature = A Great Downtown Phoenix?
Just picture this…streets lined with green trees and grass, trails where no one will run you over, parks to enjoy the nine months of good weather AND an “urban hub” where people stay out past 8 PM! Does this sound like your oasis?
Well, Phoenix City employees and consultants want to know what makes up your “connected oasis” because they believe that a public space where residents and visitors gather together may be the key to revitalizing Downtown Phoenix.
But they don’t want to just guess what elements the public wants, they want to hear it straight from your mouth. Take this survey before June 16, 2007 and tell them what’s necessary for your “community oasis.”

HGTV’s “Extreme Building” Needs Unique Homes KPI, a New York City production company, is producing a show for HGTV called “Extreme Building.” It is a 13 part series of 30 minute episodes featuring two unique homes per episode that have endured construction or engineering challenges. The series is halfway done, but KPI is still in need of more homes. The houses must be completed and be unique in either site, design, shape or materials used. | ARCHITECT OF THE CAPITOL |
|
The Selection Process Has Begun…Let the Most Qualified Win! Currently, the national selection committee for The Architect of the Capitol is narrowing down the best candidates for the job. However, the recommendations that AIA National made were not followed. Instead, the committee is looking for a “manager” (a.k.a. a non-licensed architect). The dilemma is that in the next 10 years the Architect of the Capitol, quite possibly a non-licensed architect, will be managing a 15 million square foot campus, overseeing major renovations to historic structures and preventing any disruptions to Congressional activities.
Safety is, of course, the number one priority, and AIA National feels that hiring a non-licensed person would be jeopardizing the safety of people. Thus, AIA has asked for the support of architects around the country to petition to the selection committee about this matter.
You can visit the following sites to find out more information regarding this situation and who to contact.

AIA Has Released Two New Contracts for Digital Data C106-2007: 1. Allows one party to grant another party a limited non-exclusive license to use digital data on a specific project.
2. Sets forth procedures for transmitting data
3. Places restrictions on license granted.
E201-2007:
1. Must be attached as an exhibit to an existing agreement such as B101-2007.
2. It defines digital data as information, communications, drawings and designs created or stored for a specific project.
3. It does NOT create a separate license to use digital data because the documents to which E201-2007 would be attached would already include those provisions.
